From 11-13 September 2016 DAAD London held an Alumni Conference for former DAAD and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation scholarship holders from the UK and Ireland. Previous alumni conferences in Oxford, Manchester, Dublin, and Edinburgh had proved to be an ideal forum to rekindle and intensify friendships, to keep informed of the DAAD’s developments, apart from offering a unique networking platform.
This first London-based alumni conference was held on the beautiful premises of Royal Holloway, University of London. The timing of the conference, shortly after the UK EU referendum, was indicative of the two-day long programme which explored “A Changing Europe – the importance of lasting relations”.
A line-up of high profile speakers from the academic, political and cultural sectors in the UK and Ireland as well as Germany allowed participants to gain expert insight into current opportunities for British-German and Irish-German collaboration and as opened the floor to lively discussion.
