As part of the European Commission’s DigiEduHack  on 12 and 13 November 2020, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD) will offer an online hackathon.

Based on the successful pilot hackathon at the beginning of the year, #SemesterHack 2.0 will be an opportunity to bring in your university’s or faculty’s thematic priorities related to the digital future of education.

DigiEduHack and #SemesterHack 2.0 provide an open collaborative space for 36 hours to expand on creative ideas from the digital summer semester and to develop exciting solutions for the future of teaching and learning, collaboration and exchange.

Context of the event:

The DigiEduHack is a global idea hackathon on digital education that was launched in 2019 as an EIT initiative under the European Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan . The two-day event is made up of the so-called “local hackathons”, which simultaneously take place around the world, as well as the central “main stage event”, which links the various hackathons and makes them globally visible.

In collaboration with the HFD and TU Berlin, the DAAD is organising the Main Stage Event of the DigiEduHack at the EUREF Campus in Berlin (12th -13th November 2020), with funding from the BMBF in the context of the German EU Council Presidency. Broadcast as livestream, the Main Stage Event provides a virtual stage for the wide range of local hackathons. In addition, exciting initiatives and approaches will be presented and discussed in high-level panels, innovative lectures and interactive sessions.

DAAD and HFD will offer to their community their own online hackathon under the umbrella of DigiEduHack: #SemesterHack 2.0.

There are two ways to join the DigiEduHack and #SemesterHack 2.0

1. Participating in #SemesterHack 2.0:

Individuals from all levels at a university – researchers, teachers, students, project or administrative staff – can informally participate in the online hackathon #SemesterHack 2.0 organised by DAAD and HFD under the umbrella of DigiEduHack. All you need to do is register as participant for #SemesterHack 2.0 by the beginning of November. Simply click “Join this challenge” here. Information for registered participants will follow via e-mail.

2. Participating as strategic partner:

You can also join us in shaping the hackathon and actively participate in the planning as a strategic partner (“ DigiEduHack Host”). If your university or faculty is interested, please send a short e-mail by 25 October 2020 declaring your interest to Open questions regarding the details of hosting can then be discussed in a personal meeting.

If you already know what your institution’s “Challenge” for the DigiEduHack will be, you are welcome to register as “Host” straight away in order to increase the visibility of your institution(s). Registration as a Host is possible until the beginning of November here.

Whichever of the two options you opt for, we will be happy to take over the organisation of the online community via a virtual hackathon platform. We are also happy to support you in the area of public relations and press if required.

We look forward to your feedback and to new digital networking between the institutions.
