Liberté, egalité. This battle cry of the French Revolution shook the whole of Europe. It was also to determine the fundamental rights of German constitutions in the 19th century. But did it also apply to women? Under the Weimar Constitution of 1919, women were legally equal to men in crucial respects. But what did that mean in practice?
