Writing Competition 2006

‘But don’t mention the war II’

Following the positive response to our first essay competition “But don’t Mention the War“, we decided to run a follow-up competition in 2006, which was open to undergraduate students, as well as, for the first time, Masters and PhD students.
We were, once more, interested in students’ personal experiences with contemporary Germany and all things German. Whether they have been on a trip to Germany, felt inspired by a book they have read, or have made a new friend, they were invited to share their experience with us by sending in their essay.
Like the previous year, participants had to hand in an essay style composition of up to 3000 words maximum, either in English or German. Additional textual or visual material such as poems, photographs, graphic illustrations etc. could be handed in separately.

Jury
The best contributions were chosen by a German-British specialist panel from different subject areas (including journalists, academics and representatives of cultural organisations) at the end of April 2006.
The jury judged the essays on the following criteria: originality, insight, presentation.

Awards
An awards ceremony was held at the German Embassy in London in June 2006.
