Arts Project 2026
The aim of the art project is to create an opportunity for networking and collaboration amongst DAAD scholarship holders, enabling them to establish contact with one another and forge a connection with their place of study. This year, two DAAD Master’s scholarship holders in the United Kingdom joined forces and developed a joint art project, which they presented at the DAAD Welcome Seminar on 23 October 2026. Chaline Bang has been studying Fine Art at Goldsmiths – University of London since 2025. Pornapha (Earn) Geisel-Art-Yotha was a student in Architecture at Oxford Brookes University from 2024 to 2026.
The 2026 art project is entitled ‘Close Yet Far’ and explores the feeling of loneliness that can arise despite being physically close to other people. International students in particular, such as DAAD scholarship holders, experience this contradiction when they move to a new city and try to make new friends. Using everyday scenes from London and Oxford, the short film illustrates the distance between physical proximity and genuine human connection. At the same time, the self-hosted email server is intended to help discover new ways of communicating and find the courage to reach out to one another.
